Rating:

The Kindle Fire HD 7 inch tablet from Amazon makes no claim to be the best tablet on the market.

This is considered an entry-level tablet and also the base model.

Bigger brothers are Kindle Fire HDX 7″ and Kindle Fire HDX 8.9″.

So if you’re looking for an entry-level tablet, read on…

Why 70% Would Choose Kindle Fire HD 7″ Over iPad Mini

kindle_Fire_HDApple’s iPad Mini is widely considered the best tablet in the 7-inch category.

However, apart from the sleek design, iPad Mini (especially iPad Mini without Retina Display) is not a better device than Kindle Fire HD 2013. It’s arguably inferior in a side by side comparison.

When compared to iPad Mini without Retina Display, the new Fire HD has a faster processor (1.5 GHz Vs 1 GHz), better memory (1GB RAM Vs. 512MB RAM), higher screen resolution (1280 x 800 Vs. 1024 x 768) and higher pixel density (216 ppi Vs. 163 ppi).

But guess what?

iPad Mini costs more than double the price of Kindle Fire HD 7″.

Amazon’s Fire HD is an ideal device for content consumption at an amazing price. You can access Amazon’s ecosystem for videos, music, books, games and apps.

Amazon’s collection of videos, music and books is top notch and perhaps the best on the market.

Apps and games are better with Apple and Google.

Battery life is great. Just like iPad Mini 1st generation (without Retina Display), you get 10 hours of battery life.

The design is attractive and ergonomic.

It weighs a mere 345g, just 14g heavier than iPad Mini. It is 7.5 inches wide, 5 inches tall and 0.42 inches deep.

The display is sharp with higher resolution and pixel density than iPad Mini. It has a resolution of 1280 x 800 at 216 pixels per inch.

The more powerful processor of Fire HD makes it a better device than iPad Mini to surf or buffer video seamlessly.

Playing 3D games is a better experience thanks to the quicker processor.

Comparison With Other High-end Tablets

Kindle Fire HD 7 doesn’t match-up with its predecessor Kindle Fire HDX or with Google’s Nexus 7 or iPad Mini 7 inch with Retina Display in terms of screen quality or power.

Not everyone wants to pay out for a range-topping tablet packed with features they won’t use. If you want a tablet for media content and some basic browsing, Kindle Fire HD is well worth checking out.

Who May Not Like Kindle Fire HD

The thing many object to with Kindle Fire HD is the absence of a camera. No video chat or snapping fun pics.

Amazon is working hard on the availability of apps but not hard enough to seriously compete with Google and Apple.

Kindle Fire HD is only available as a Wi-Fi model. There is no cellular version like with iPad Mini. This is a concern for some people who often travel to destinations where Wi-Fi access is difficult.

Verdict

This Kindle Fire HD 7 is unbeatable for the price if you are looking for a basic tablet for media consumption. It is ideal for accessing Amazon’s impressive and enormous media contents. This is the best basic tablet with a bang for your money priced with special offers.
